Jazz, the orangutan had recently become a mother and a grandmother. She gave birth to her son Jim (the child on her right), while her daughter Sprout had her first child, Joe (the baby on the left). Since Sprout found first-time parenting to be relatively difficult, Jazz stepped in right away and took care of Joe as her own. Without making any discrimination, she cared for and reared both babies together. Both of the infants were cradled in Jazz's arms, while Sprout was observed picking out leaves from the water and chewing them. Both the babies seemed quite active, although Jazz made sure to hold them tight every time she moved.
